How Upenned works

From handwritten letter to private, searchable archive.

Upload a clear image or PDF, add only the details you already know, and review a readable draft beside the original.

Create your private archive Currently free · no payment card required

1. Preserve the original

Choose one JPG, PNG, or WebP image; several page photos in order; or an existing PDF. Upenned keeps the submitted image or PDF—or the PDF prepared from selected pages—in your private archive.

When you choose several images, Upenned prepares one PDF in your browser before the secure upload begins.

2. Add what you know

A title is required. Names, dates, relationships, places, collections, reading clues, and a description are optional. Details you provide take priority over uncertain suggestions.

3. Review the draft

Upenned prepares a transcript and may suggest a translation, summary, people, places, dates, and historical context. These are drafts, not verified facts.

  • Compare the transcript with the original
  • Review passages marked as uncertain
  • Correct the text whenever your knowledge is better

4. Explore your archive

Search letters by words, people, or places; follow correspondence through time; export your archive data; or delete individual letters and the account.
